Short useful tips

Credit cards: The major credit cards are accepted. They are suitable for small payments like hotels, shopping etc. Because of the daily limit, they are not suitable for large payments – for establishing of companies and buying properties.

Currency exchange: Exchange money only in the banks or in the exchange offices. Check carefully the exchange rates – some exchange offices offer very low rates.

Taxi: Different taxi cabs operate at different fares. The fare for long-distance journeys can be negotiated.

Hotels: Reservation at hotel in advance is recommended.

Restaurants: A wide variety of cuisine is offered. Along with traditional Bulgarian dishes, there are many Italian, French, Greek, Chinese, German, Arab, Hungarian, Latin American, Indian and Russian restaurants. The prices vary. Some restaurants are open 24 hours a day.

Car hire: The prices of the big international rent-a-car companies are considerably higher than the prices of the small Bulgarian ones.

Bags: By no means leave your luggage unattended.

Shops: The most expensive shops are these on the main trade streets in the towns. The shops, located on the side streets or in other areas, are cheaper.
